In 2013 I was having Petit Mal seizures, Petit Mal seizures are also referred to as Absence seizures, usually during a seizure it would look like I was in a daze and staring into space. My mom and dad took me to see my regular doctor and he referred me to a neurologist. The neurologist did a lot of tests like an EEG . The doctor called us in one day and told us that I had Petit Mal seizures and I was going to have to be on medication my whole life. I was very scared and could not understand why this was happening to me.
The Doctor prescribed me a medication called Lamictal, I started to take the medicine as the doctor said to. It was a 4-week period that I had to increase the medication on Mondays until I was at the top dose. Once I got to the top dose I ended up having an allergic reaction and had to go to the emergency room, at the emergency room they gave me Benadryl and sent me home, we then went to another emergency room and they said it was just an allergic reaction. My mom and grandma took me to see the doctor the next day and by that time the allergic reaction had spread all over my body and in my mouth, and all body parts. The doctor sent us immediately to CHOC hospital. I was admitted on Valentine’s day 2013, I ended up having Steven Johnson Syndrome which is a very rare disease caused from Lamictal. The student doctors would come in with my doctor and check me out because they had not seen a case this bad.
